St Vedast & St James Reunited

Now there's an alternative to Friends Re-united or the official '7th Form' of St James's Independent School For Boys and St James's Independent School For Girls; (also formerly Vedast Independent School For Boys or St Vedast Independent School For Girls) for all former pupils of these schools...

A new Yahoo group has been set up for all former pupils ...St Vedast & St James Reunited ...the intention is that it will be 100% free from any links with the former schools to enable all former pupils to link up or meet if they so wish without any association with the current St James's Independent Schools.

It's a moderated group and steps are taken to check the identity of those joining. All former pupils please take time to join up... http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/St_V_J_Reunited/

This is not directly connected with the previous blog about the alleged abuse at the schools, but has been set up as a result of comments received from former pupils who have expressed a wish to meet up with old school friends. Use Friends Re-united by all means, but if you don't fancy paying the fees then this is free ;)

Former pupils of St James & St Vedast Independent Schools voice abuse complaints after 20 years of silence.

Former pupils of the St James and St Vedast Independent Schools finally find the courage to voice complaints of abuse and mistreatment after 20 years.

Pupils of the schools, which include; Vedast Independent School For Boys, St Vedast Independent School For Girls, St James's Independent School For Boys, St James's Independent School For Girls; have finally, using the power of the internet, found the strength to voice complaints of abuse, mistreatment and a general atmosphere of terror that persisted at the schools well into the late 80's. The schools have subsequently merged and now exist as St James Independent Schools, now based in Twickenham.

The current headteacher of St James, Mr David Boddy, is concerned that the revelations may harm the current schools' reputation and has proposed an inquiry into past events. One of the main concerns of former pupils is that several alleged abusers still teach at the current school.

Parents of pupils currently attending the school are also raising concerns via the web forum over the schools' links with the School of Economic Science (also known as the SES) which has open, though not particularly well publicised (if parents' reactions are anything to go by), links with the current St James Independent School and also with other schools in the UK and abroad:

The Alcuin School, Leeds
John Scottus School in Dublin
Abraham Lincoln School, New York
John Colet School, Sydney
Erasmus School, Melbourne
Ficino School, Auckland

The SES has more than 40 branches throughout the UK and over 15 countries throughout the world, run from it's impressive headquarters in Mandeville Place, London. The School runs courses open to the public who are interested in learning more about it's founders' ideas on Economics and Philosophy.

Turbulence KiteJam 2004

Just got back from the Turbulence Kite Jam & Dirty Dog party. Had one of the best weekends of '04 in my opinion. Lots of buggying, including some of the best freestylers in the UK. Followed by a rocking party sponsored by Dirty Dog.

PHONES4U: Shopping Nightmare Part II

PHONES4U: The worst mobile phone shop in the world - probably

Young sirs wants a new mobile for his birthday. Happen to be in the Trafford Centre for some other shopping. Look at a few phone shops having seen a poster from BT mobile for a £9.99 per month deal. End up going into Stupid4U as its the nearest to where we were standing at the time. Ask the boy in the shop if you can get an Ericsson T630 on the BT deal. Boy swings into used car salesman mode, 'have a seat', 'I just need to ask you a few questions', alarm bells start ringing, but stay with it rather than what I wanted to do which was RUN AWAY!! After about an hour they then said they could not find any record of me on their credit check!! This is despite having a fisful of credit cards, driving licence etc. Told us that we could come back with our BT phone bill. Instinct is telling me to sack it & go to one of 20 odd other phone shops, but no...we pay £10 deposit 'to keep the phone' as it was a 'rare colour' (=scam to make you come back) ...back we go with phone bill...phone bill is 3 months and 3 days old...new one is in the post...won't do apparently...I blow top...scare off about 3 new customers (yeay) and alsoo have a go at myladdo for continually nipping to talk to other customers while dealing with us. £10 refund please...across the way to Carphone warehouse. Phone sorted in 5 minutes, plus an incar charger and handsfree kit for £5 down from £15.

So the jingle is Don't go to phones4U, don't go to phones4u, don't go to phones4u, ming-ming-ming-ming-minimnooo

Stop the ban on Pendine Sands ! Petition

Stop the ban on Pendine Sands ! Petition

Petition to Carmarthenshire County Council

Please don't ban kiting on Pendine Sands....

Pendine Sands is a large beach in South Wales, mostly owned by the Ministry of Defence and used as a bombing range during the week. On an evening and weekend the public have free access to it.

It's approximately 8 miles long, and is used for lots of varied activities. It's known as THE number one spot in the UK for Traction Kite related sports (buggying, boarding etc), and people travel from all over the UK to get to this mecca of a place, to fly on it's massive expanse of sand.

Unfortunately, people are also allowed to drive motor vehicles on the beach at present, and some unsociable behaviour by people in cars, and on quad bikes has made the County Council look to closing the beach altogether, after having a report done by RoSPA, as they fear they will be liable for any accident that may occur.

This blanket ban will also affect the Traction Kiters, who are one of the most responsible, safety conscious groups of people you could meet, and who mostly have £5 million third party liability insurance. The kiters make a point of going further down the beach (a couple of miles) away from the public to 'do their thing', so as not to be a hazard to the general public.

They have not consulted with kiters to find a workaround, or take into account how safety conscious and responsible kiters are. They've just decided to close the beach, and allow pedestrian access only.

They also don't seem to realise the detrimental effect it will have on the local economy. Kiters fly at all times of the year, staying in local hotels and hostelries and spending in local shops and pubs etc. This provides a large amount of revenue for the businesses in the off-season period, as well as the main season.

Regular meets happen all year round, and this loss of revenue as people will no longer visit, will have a damaging effect on local businesses and communities.

Kiters have been contacting the media to raise awareness of what is happening before the ban in put into place without any consultation.

This petition is to try to show the County Council the massive support around the UK to keep this massive venue open to all, and start discussions with the kiting fraternity, so putting the councils' mind at rest regarding safety and conduct on the beach.

Please show your support by signing the petition.

Thank You.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Shopping Annoyances Part 1::Peat Free Free

Tried to get some peat free or organic Grow Bags this week...could I get any...could I Bollo*!!...Tried B&Q, Tried Homebase, Tried 3 local garden centres (Worsley Hall, Broadoak Park, Linnyshaw)
then phoned Bents who said oh yes we have them.
Gues what...went all the way there & they didn't f**ing have em!...never ever going there again. (that's Bents if you missed that, the only restaurant with a garden centre attached - avoid if at all possible LOL!!!)

Ended up buying compost and using pots!

Is it because of short supply, the peat producers not really wanting to give up their market, or just that everyone now wants peat-free and I was just too late. Stocks of peat based bags where plenitful though...hmmm!

The price of Renault spares - sheesh!!!

The rear wiper motor on my Scenic burnt out the other day. Phoned the dealer to see how much a new one cost.... £200 !!!! Will probably do without one for now, but they did say Renault might stump up part of the cost if they decide that it shouldn't have failed after only 2.5 years. Probably just enough to cover fitting at £40 an hour or whatever they charge

Spybot S&D No Updates?

News - The home of Spybot-S&D!
No updates from Spybot Search&Destroy since the beginning of march...not good really...one reason (OK excuse) that I'm not ready to pay for this type of software. Happened with Adaware while they were upgrading to 6.0. Happened with that free antivirus I had before I got Avast/AVG who's name I have forgotten. It seems that I'm just about getting ready to stump up some cash for the full or -pro version, when things go pear-shaped. Am I the camel that broke the straw's back? If I had paid up, would the software still be alive today? Hmmm...

Amiga Forever Home Page - Amiga Emulation, Connectivity, History and Support

While I am unlikely to use this Amiga EMU, as I never managed to get past the boot process on my little sister in law's Amiga 600. I still reckon that there was a hard disk problem and something wasn't working right, but then it was bought from Dixon's or Curry's and the support (as usual for these rip-off merchants) was complete bobbins. Anyway for those who yearn for a slick looking app which lets them re-live their amiga years, it looks like this might do it - with support too.

An excellent (American) English Grammar Tutorial

University of Calgary English Grammar Tutorial

This is a really useful tutorial and reference for those of us with a less than complete formal education in the intricacies of English Grammar. Not necessarily the sort of thing one needs to know on an every day basis, but incredibly useful:

a) if you either need to check up, for example, what a Gerund is.

or

b) you are studying a foreign language with a more structured grammar and you teacher starts talking about 'the infinitive form' of a verb and you find you don't even know what that is in English let alone in Spanish (or whatever).

Then the counter starts to creep up and you realise that more poor mugs have tripped into your little bit of webspace. Interesting to note, at the other end of the scale, ie how to deliberately destroy CDs. Have noticed that the CDs I hung up last summer as bird scarers over the vegetable plot (AOL has some uses cheers for the free disks guys) are now completely blank - the silver coating and most of the ink etc. seems to have come away leaving a transparent plastic disk. Don't know whether anyone would be able to retrieve data from these unless the burning process leaves some marks in the plastic too - but it seems a pretty good way of ensuring the data is erased :p

Intelligence Poor :: Or they just said what they thought their masters wanted to hear

BBC NEWS | Politics | The failures of intelligence

Will WMD ever be found, did T Blair really think S Hussein had bucketloads of WMD on 45 min readiness?

The trouble is that you can't confirm or deny intel sources otherwise they may get compromised themselves so its probably better in the long run for the Intel to look a bit stupid and continue to get useful info. If this was left to the UK police force, then from past experience, they would probably march up to their source's front door and say 'it was him , he was the guy informing on the bad guys, but he got it wrong'. Hopefully the intel people will continue to play things close to their chests.

Alternatively they haven't got a clue and all our taxpayer's money for satellites, spyplanes, GCHQ, phonetapping etc., etc. has all been a waste of time.

A question asked by a work colleague has inspired a search to find out the meaning - if any - behind the title and lyrics of Bob Marley's 'I shot the sheriff'. this first article suggests it may be a result of Bob's relationship with friend, 'herb' finder and part time band member - Lee Jaffe who was white and may thus be representative of 'babylon'/authority/imposed (white/colonial) law and order ie the aforementioned sheriff?.

The report goes on to use the word 'unsatisfactory' 129 times as well as several 'not satisfactory' and other negative adjectives. The report basically states that were it not for the positive influence of its new headteacher, the school would be categorised as a failing school. Kind of a last chance guys!

BBC NEWS | UK | Airport probe after terror arrest
After a man flew from Washington DC to London with quote 'five bullets' by which I assume they mean five rounds of ammunition, one wonders how many more draconian changes to the law will occur before governments realise that its not tighter laws that we require its just proper application of the ones we've already got. This adds to the long catalogue of errors including Hungerford, Soham, Victoria Climbie, and Shipman where dutiful application of existing rules, regulations and procedures may well have prevented the terrible events.

Queues now forming outside this Branch of Argos filled with people demanding their extra 'graphics package' ;) - is this Regent Road, the branch where the assistant genuinely believed that the empty box that used to contain the display model still contained all the requisite components of a surround sound system (a couple of stands and a few wires!) and would have let me take it away if I hadn't checked - or could it be Ancoats? Regents Road methinks and would they even know one end of a digital camera from another, could they work out how to load pictures onto the cam? Interesting to see if the files have some sort of 'source computer' or 'created by' tag?

The Manchester Flyers website :: Powerkites, buggies, boards :: Feel the Power

Welcome to the Manchester flyers website. Have a nice stay!

This is the Manchester Flyers website, created by Ash, son of Carl. Mancheter Flyers are anyone in Manchester who is into kiteing, para-karting (kite buggying), boarding or just static flying. Lots of power-kite crazy guys and a few girls too, but they won't laugh if you want to fly a single line job or a stunt kite either. They might show off a lot and offer you a go on their ridiculously powerful kites. Be warned, you might get hooked on power!

Not findeable on Google yet, but hopefully will be soon if enough peops link to it. Maybe needs a few meta tags, but we'll get round to it I'm sure!
